Our initiatives

At Robs Dogs, we are a passionate group of volunteers dedicated to
protecting and preserving wild dogs and cats, working to create a safer,
healthier environment for these often-overlooked animals.

Our Initiatives

Rob’s Dogs believes in a compassionate world where no dogs or cats suffer from neglect, abuse, or abandonment. Our work focuses on improving animal welfare and humane treatment for stray and vulnerable animals.

Our mission is to support sterilization programs for stray dogs and cats, helping reduce unwanted litters and prevent overpopulation. By supporting spay and neuter initiatives, we aim to improve the long-term welfare of animals living on the streets and in underserved communities.

Through responsible sterilization, education, and community engagement, Rob’s Dogs works to create sustainable solutions that protect animals while promoting healthier and more compassionate communities

Animal Welfare

Rob’s Dogs is committed to raising awareness about animal welfare and the ethical treatment of animals. While our sterilization programs focus on stray dogs and cats, we believe compassion should extend to all animals.

Through education and outreach, we encourage people to consider the broader impact of human activity on animals and to make more informed and compassionate choices.

We raise awareness about issues such as:

Animal testing in cosmetics, medicines, and other products
Factory farming practices in meat, dairy, and egg production
Animal exploitation in entertainment industries
• The importance of respecting and protecting all animal life

At Rob’s Dogs, we believe every animal deserves compassion, dignity, and protection.

Saving the Bali Heritage Dog

During my first visit to Bali, I was struck by the sight of dogs freely roaming the streets and resting at the gates of family compounds. Their varied colors and distinctive upright ears immediately caught my attention. Later, after relocating to Bali and working with street dogs, I began to understand just how unique these dogs truly are.

The Bali Dog is considered one of the oldest and most genetically distinct dog populations in the world. Research conducted by scientists at the University of California, Davis found that Bali dogs possess an unusually pure and ancient gene pool.

Between 2000 and 2003, researchers led by Niels Pedersen studied the DNA of more than 3,500 indigenous dogs in Bali. Their findings suggested that the Bali Dog may have evolved largely isolated from other dog populations for thousands of years.

The island is home to two indigenous dog types — the Bali Dog and the Kintamani highland dog — both believed to have remained relatively unchanged for up to 5,000 years, with ancestry possibly tracing back 15,000 years to early proto-dogs that evolved from wolves.

Despite this remarkable genetic heritage, Bali dogs face several threats. Government culling programs, interbreeding with imported dogs, and the popularity of foreign breeds are slowly eroding the original Bali Dog gene pool. Many imported dogs are bred in poor conditions and later abandoned when they become sick or old.

Bali dogs vary greatly in appearance but share many common traits. They are intelligent, adaptable, and extremely clean animals that make loyal companions. Many dogs roaming the streets are actually cared for or “owned” by local families.

At Rob’s Dogs, we are committed to protecting the Bali heritage dog through:

• sterilization programs to control population growth
• education and awareness in local communities
• advocating for official recognition of the Bali Dog
• supporting responsible international adoption

Our goal is to help preserve this unique and ancient dog population for future generations
